Watch My Garden Grow Part 8
As was the case all across the
United States, the 2007
pumpkin crop was below
normal.  After two of the
grand-babies picked out theirs,
only a few were left for
autumn decorations.

Cornstalks (recycled from the
garden after the corn was
harvested) tied around the
mailbox post along with two
pumpkins provide a seasonal
decoration and welcome.
Below, a "baby" pumpkin forms at
the base of a blossom!
Pumpkins!

Pumpkin plants
are
self-pollinating.
The have both
male and female
blossoms, the
female blossoms
produce the
pumpkins.

Pumpkins are fun and easy
to grow.  They require lots
of water and sometimes the
vines need to be re-routed
to keep them in the garden.
Otherwise, they don't
require much maintenance.
Other than the drought, the
biggest problem
encountered this year was
the cardinals pulling up the
seeds after they discovered
the sunflower seeds planted
nearby!
